How do I get started?
The first step to having your damaged discs repaired is to click on the "Try It Now" button located at the top of the page. You will
then be asked to fill out a form with basic information such as: Name, Address,Telephone number, and billing information. We will then send you mailers in order for you to send your damaged discs to us for repair. The discs will be repaired and put back in the mail within 48 hours of the discs arrival at our facilities.
How do I pay?
Spiffydisc.com accepts multiple forms of payment for our services. We accept the following credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover Card. We also accept Paypal as well as personal checks and business checks. All payment methods must be cleared before repaired discs are returned to the owner. Personal checks and business checks take a few days to clear so the 48 hour turn around time may not apply to these orders.
Who pays for shipping?
Spiffydisc.com covers all shipping charges for the customer. When you fill out the form for your order, we send you a two-way pre-paid envelope which you will send the discs back to us. You only have to pay for the cost of repairing your discs, we handle the rest.
Will my repaired disc look and play like new?
Spiffydisc.com uses a patented disc repair process that removes scratches to make them play like new. After the initial process is complete, the discs undergo a polishing process which gives the disc the original glossy shine just like it was when you originally opened the case.
How long will it take to get my disc repaired?
We should have your discs repaired within 48 hours of them arriving at our facilities. Under certain circumstances such as bulk orders, it may take longer to process those orders, but you will be notified of the approximate time for larger repairs.
Do you warranty your repairs?
Discs which have scratches that go too deep on the data read side or have scratches on the top foil are not repairable. Spiffydisc.com does not cover any defects of the disc that are not repairable by our machines due to the original manufacturing process of the disc or abuse by the initial purchaser.
Are my discs secure with Spiffydisc?
Absolutely. Spiffydisc has secure facilities that are monitored 24 hours a day by various staff and video surveillance.
What happens if I send you a defective or damaged disc for repair?
If a disc is found to be defective at any point during the repair process, Spiffydisc.com will return the disc in its current condition. Foil scratches, cracked discs, label damages, and other types of damage are not repairable and Spiffydisc.com will try to catch these if possible. If Spiffydisc.com does not notice the problem before the repair process is complete the standard charge will still apply. However, if the damage is caught before hand, you will not be charged for the repair. Although there may be a minor shipping fee on the returned damaged disc.
What happens if you lose a disc?
Spiffydisc.com is not responsible for discs lost during transit either from the customer to Spiffydisc.com or from Spiffydisc.com back to the customer. If a disc is lost at the Spiffydisc.com facilities between the time it arrives and we ship your discs back to you, there is a maximum liability cost of $10.00 or the value of the disc, whichever is least.
What are the limitations of liability?
Spiffydisc.com is by no means liable for any of the following: (1) Damage to or loss of any data or records located on the disc sent in to be repaired. (2) Other third party claims held against you for damages. (3) incidental damages or economic consequential damages which may result in lost profits or savings, even if you inform us of the possibility of this occurring before hand.
How do scratches on a disc affect its ability to play?
Discs are made using one or two data layers depending on the type of disc. A laser in your CD, DVD player, or game console reflects the data from the disc back to the optical eye in your system which is how the data is transferred. A scratch on your disc causes the laser to reflect back at an improper angle which causes the transmission to become distorted and causes what most people call a "skip" on the playback of the disc.
Can all types of discs be repaired?
Almost every type can be repaired, but all damage cannot. At spiffydisc.com we can repair standard 5" discs such as CD, DVD, Xbox, Playstation 1 and 2, Dreamcast, software discs and more. We are also able to repair the 3" disc type including Nintendo's Gamecube discs. We are NOT currently able to repair Playstation 3 games.
What types of damage can be repaired?
There are three main types of damage to a disc: Read-side scratches, top-side scratches and foil dents. It is only possible to repair a read-side scratch. If the scratch is too severe it is considered a gouge and those may not be completely repaired. Other damage to the disc such as heat are also not repairable as they permanently damage the data on the disc.
What do you mean by resurfacing a disc?
Essentially, resurfacing a disc is removing a thin layer of the polycarbonate protective layer that prevents damage of the data. The scratches on the layer is what is causing the disc to be read incorrectly so by removing a thin layer, it removes the scratches and allows the optical laser to read the data correctly again.
How many times can a disc be repaired?
Most discs can be repaired 8-10 times before the actual data layer of the disc is reached. This may be more or less depending on the severity of the scratches that are on the disc.
